The Lee Boys’ front man has struck off on his own, but he’s rarely alone. Roosevelt Collier positively smokes on the pedal steel and his vocals bring to mind the steamy exhortations of James Brown. He is one sought-after cat and it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say he has collaborated with nearly everyone. You name it – from Warren Haynes and the Tedeschi Trucks Band and New Mastersounds to North Mississippi Allstars, Collier is the go-to man when fiery pedal steel is called for in a song. He’s another one of the great players who came up in the House of God Sacred Steel tradition – his skills are downright holy. The Roosevelt Collier Trio features Mofro drummer Anthony Cole and Shak Nasti bassist Matt Lapham – it’s a rhythm section that cooks up a fat bottom so Collier’s strings can sing.
