Cris Jacobs’ quest for purpose and peace hasn’t been as easy one. A musical identity crisis, ongoing challenges with his mental health and lingering self-doubt came close to sabotaging his career. “I was on the verge of giving it all up,” he says. “I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with music anymore, because it felt like I’d been scratching and clawing for years - just never quite getting there.”
Invigoration and validation came as a result of the work and collaboration he had in the making of One of These Days. With the Infamous Stringdusters as his band, Jerry Douglas producing and star turns from Billy Strings and Lindsay Lou, the album is a celebration of roots music, hewing to country blues and front porch foot-stompers. It’s no small wonder Steve Winwood and Sturgill Simpson love him. And in returning to a sound at once simple and soulful, Cris Jacobs has found his way back to what was there all along.
