As this festival demonstrates, Texas is an equal opportunity proving ground for killer female guitarists. From Austin, we introduce Jackie Venson. She’s gonna throw it all at us. She’s by turns playful, inventive, psychedelic, pop-tastic and traditional. A Berklee grad, she’s opened for Gary Clark Jr. Melissa Etheridge and Aloe Blacc. We may also meet her musical alter-ego, Jackie the Robot, a concept that takes her music and puts it through a psychedelic-electronic blender. As we said, she going to take us on a trip. We’ll leave you with this from her hometown newspaper, the Austin-American Statesman who said, “(She’s) a Gary Clark Jr.-level talent who speaks boldly through her guitar while entrancing with her gorgeous, smoky voice.” We’re ready.
