She’s performed backing vocals with Prince, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, and is featured in the film 20 Feet From Stardom. There is no question that Judith Hill can sing, but what really lights the candles on the cake is her prowess on the guitar. With a band of her own, and a steady stream of songs flowing from her creative soul, Judith’ s transition from backup singer to frontwoman has been along the lines of, “at last!” Her blues-funk style adheres to her musical influences in gospel, soul, funk, jazz and blues. And when it comes the guitar, she finds that the instrument speaks in ways she understands. “Starting out as a singer, I realized the guitar was the closest instrument to the human voice in terms of expression. It gave me an opportunity to extend the way in which I could express myself. It’s a really special thing to have that dialog between voice and guitar,” she told Guitar World.
