Houma, Louisiana’s favorite son is back! We love having Tab here because the passion and the level of musicianship he brings to the stage is unparalleled. As a guitar player, he’s outstanding. The emotional impact he pulls from his instrument, a well-traveled Fender Telecaster Thinline that speaks in swampy, keening tones, is deep and far-ranging. He was schooled as a youth by the Louisiana living blues legends who lived nearby, an education that the blues-loving teen absorbed with his characteristic intensity.
In addition to his numerous albums and honors (including not one, but two B.B. King Entertainer of the Year nods from Blues Music Awards) Tab co-authored a book about the blues and mental health, in an effort decrease the stigma of mental illness and also to raise money for the HART Fund, a nonprofit that defrays the cost of medical and mental health care for blues musicians who might not otherwise be able to afford treatment. Tab is keenly aware of how music can be a balm in challenging times.
“It’s often a song that brings you back from a rough time, when nobody else can say the right thing,” he told Blues Blast magazine.” When I realized that sometimes I have the ability to help people through something in their life with a song, I knew that this was what I really needed to be doing. I guess my part of that book is really about that—helping people. Even if it is just one person, it is worth it.”
Sir, you are a righteous man. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Welcome back!
