This band is for those of us who speak Rock and Roll. Though The Magpie Salute was only formed late last year, they are old musical compadres with thousands of miles, a musical history, and many stories between them. The brainchild of The Black Crowes co-founder, Rich Robinson, the band features former Crowes guitarist and bassist, respectively, Marc Ford and Sven Pipien, with drummer Joe Magistro and Matt Slocum on keys. The Magpie Salute vocal contingent is mighty – John Hogg handles lead vocals and former Crowes singer Charity White and background singers, Adrien Reju and Katrine Ottosen add power to the Salute’s not-kidding-around rock and roll show. They shine new light on Crowes classics and cover songs by War and Delaney and Bonnie, just to hint at what to expect. Response to The Magpie Salute has been fantastic. Sold-out shows (many added on due to popular demand) speak to the reverberating adoration fans have for The Black Crowes and for real rock and roll. As Rich says, it’s even more than that. “It's freedom, it's love, it's loss, it's pure joy. It’s misery, it's simultaneously arrogance and vulnerability. It is life.”
