Words fail when it comes to describing the power and warmth of Thornetta Davis’ amazing voice. Let’s, instead, look to the artists she’s shared a stage with, including Etta James, Gladys Knight, and one of this year’s headliners, Bonnie Raitt. She’s worked with Kid Rock, Bob Seger and the great Detroit blues singer, Alberta Adams as well as putting out her own high-powered solo recordings. She’s been declared the Queen of Detroit Blues by the Detroit Blues Society, and with good reason. Mentored by the previous Queen, Alberta Adams, the passing of the crown made sense. From singing herself to sleep as a little girl with Michael Jackson’s song I’ll Be There, to opening for A-listers, Thornetta’s road to the crown glitters. Bow down, but then dance. The Queen insists.
