Like so many before him and likely many in the future, Colin Lake was irresistibly attracted to the great music city that is New Orleans. Just 19 and visiting the city for a lacrosse tournament, he not only met his future wife at the airport, but sensed there was something decidedly different about the place. It didn’t hurt that his parents were dedicated attendees of the storied New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, an influence that proved instrumental in his making the move to the Crescent City. There he nurtured his rootsy, blues-laced music in that city’s welcoming atmosphere, busking and absorbing the sights, smells and sounds. It didn’t take long for him to become a beloved fixture on the festival circuit where his impassioned vocals are the perfect compliment for his seamless guitar work. His newest record, One Thing That’s For Sure, is a heaping platter of 11 heartfelt, intimate originals that stand alongside the work of those he’s had the pleasure of opening for – folks like Gary Clark Jr. and Dr. John.
