Oh yeah, it’s time for some “dirty shine,” a term used by ZZ Ward to describe her distinctive melding of blues, rock, soul and hip-hop. The young singer grew up listening to her daddy’s blues records, which included Muddy Waters, Big Mama Thornton, and her idol Etta James(TBB 2008). Zsuzsanna (her name got shortened once she made her move to LA) also loves the hip-hop her brothers turned her on to and it is sprinkled to great effect throughout her superb debut album Til The Casket Drops. In addition to her seductive Adele-like pipes, ZZ plays guitar, piano and harmonica. Having ZZ on our line-up is like looking into a crystal ball. At just 24, we can see the future and it is ZZ.
