The Ben Miller Band is a band that sets up on the front porch on a hot summer night and plays until the moths have all beaten themselves senseless on the light bulb. Their feral, rootsy sound is made with a collection of instruments both traditional and fabricated from the stuff some people call junk. As an opening act for ZZ Top, members of the Top found themselves mesmerized, unable to look away, while Miller and company whipped the crowd into a dust-raising, foot-stomping frenzy. They call their sound Ozark Stomp and in it there are elements of rock, bluegrass, and Appalachian mountain music. The blend is oddly mystical, impossible to keep still to, and completely engaging. You’ll find yourself wondering what just happened, and wanting to hear it again and again.
