It had to happen. The scions of members of the legendary Southern blues-rock band, The Allman Brothers, have joined forces to create the next generation of music that reaches forward and back. It’s a legacy as thick as blood, as close as a humid Southern night. The Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts was such a success that Duane and Devon — the sons of Dickey Betts and Gregg Allman — took the next logical step. While the soaring guitar work and gravelly, bluesy vocals that are a hallmark of the classic Allmans sound are heard in this new band, Devon and Duane put their own, unmistakable imprint on a body of work that is thrilling and fresh. ABB also includes another apple off the family tree, Berry Oakley Jr., son of original Allman Brothers Band bassist Berry Oakley, with John Stachela on slide guitar and percussionists R. Scott Bryan and John Lum from the Devon Allman Project. Their music is powerful and moving. If you like your blues-rock driving, emotional and played by master musicians steeped in the history of their paternal lineage, this is the stuff of dreams.
