On its 2021 release, Play Loud, The Record Company delivers the crunch of Stones-y rock, the moan of John Lee Hooker, and the drive of their own desires. The directions before dropping the needle in the groove also nudge us to, with the power of volume, not just hear, but feel the music. Rock gets the heart pumping, blues warms the blood in our veins and the wave of sound incites memory, loss, pain and redemption. Play Loud wraps all those notions in a dirty-sweet package.
