2021 Bal De Maison: Opening Celebration With Monophonics

Thursday, September 16 | Monophonics | Sheridan Opera House

The opening celebration for the 2021 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival will feature the jaw-dropping, hair-raising psychedelic soul from Monophonics. Held at the historic Sheridan Opera House on Thursday, September 16, the Bal de Maison is the perfect way to kick off the festival weekend. The doors open at 8:30 pm and the show starts at 9:00 pm. Tickets are on sale now and very limited (less than 50 tickets left).

History

The phrase Bal de Maison originated from dances held at someone’s house - typically in the front room. These dances were usually announced by the host of the party simply yelling from his or her porch to the neighbors. Word would sometimes travel up to 40 miles. The Bal de Maison opening celebration has been a part of our festival tradition for over 10 years. So here's our shout out - spread the word about the Bal de Maison and let’s have a dance party to start the weekend!

Monophonics

It’s smooth, it’s sexy, it’s hot, it’s raw emotion. We love the Monophonics neo-soul groove. And come September, when we’ve come out on the other side of a protracted chapter of social distancing, we can rejoin and celebrate to the sounds of these cool, California psychedelic soul men. Their latest album on Colemine Records, It’s Only Us, is an album whose message is not only resilience, but also one of strength and unity. Lead singer Kelly Finnigan sings with power and yearning, and the band is firing on all cylinders on every song. Rich in brass and with a rhythm section like an engine, they are, as Stax co-owner Al Bell has famously said, “One of the best live soul bands I have ever seen.” We agree and that’s why we wanted them back.
