Valerie June hails from Tennessee, where numerous musical traditions intertwine and collide – gospel, Appalachian folk, blues, Americana. It is from this stew that her music is rooted in a style she calls, “organic moonshine roots music.” When she was a little girl, she tagged along with her father, a local promoter of gospel and R&B music, while he hung posters around Jackson for his upcoming acts.
